The 2016 PGA Championship will take place on July 25–31 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. Get ready for the championship with this guide to the location, the players, and all the action.

Get to Know Baltusrol Golf Club

Baltusrol is a 36-hole private golf club that was established in 1895. The club has a lower course and an upper course, and the PGA Championship will take place on the lower course, just as it did in 2005.

Baltusrol has several challenging holes that will test the skills of even top players. To make the game even more difficult, several par 5 holes have been changed to par 4 holes. The lower course also has plenty of water and sand features.

The 17th hole, which is a par 5, boasts the longest distance. At 650 yards, it’s nearly 100 yards longer than any other hole on the course. The PGA Championship website offers a fabulous tour of each hole to prepare you for some of the week’s most exciting moments.

Pros Competing in the 2016 PGA Championship

The PGA Championship has attracted 89 top players from around the world. While each fan will have a favorite golfer, the experts have devised a short list of likely wins. Most believe that Jason Day will take home the Wanamaker Trophy. Several experts, however, are placing their bets on Bubba Watson. Other players who could win include Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth, or Brooks Koepka.

While these players have the best chances of winning the trophy, everyone participating in the tournament has the right skills to upset expectations. Keep a close eye on the favorites, but also listen for rumors that an unlikely winner is moving ahead. You may want to position yourself to see how that player progresses, allowing you to watch historical plays as they unfold.

Getting to the Game

If you live in New York City, you can reach the PGA Championship by taking a 25-mile drive on I-78 to Springfield, New Jersey. If you don’t live in the area, you may want to fly into Newark Liberty International Airport. The closest major airport, it’s just 11 miles away from the golf club. If you love golf but you don’t live in the area, you’ll find that booking a charter plane with Mountain Aviation is the fastest and most comfortable way to reach Baltusrol.

Where to Stay During the PGA Championship

The PGA has arranged numerous hospitality options that make it easy for visitors to witness their favorite players without traveling from distant hotels. At this point, many of the clubhouse hospitality rooms are sold out. Keep in mind, however, that the PGA will have refreshment stations set up throughout the lower court and clubhouses, and coolers are discouraged.
Limited space is still available at the personal chalets and Sarazen Suites. If you can’t secure accommodations, consider staying at nearby hotels, such as the Summit DeBary Inn or the Grand Summit Hotel, both of which are just a couple miles from the golf club. No matter where you stay, you’re in for an unforgettable PGA Championship.
